Newburgh Free Library

This library is extremely noisy and not at all suitable for studying or reading. The staff themselves were disruptive, talking and laughing loudly among each other, which made it impossible to concentrate. A library should provide a quiet, respectful environment, but this one completely fails to do so. Very disappointing experience.

Newburgh library is great; it's huge and has a great selection of books and a helpful staff. The giant floor to ceiling windows on both upper and lower floors provides a scenic view of the Hudson River and waterfront. It's the only library where I can get a bunch of books, sit in a comfy chair and browse, stare, read, relax. For the most part it's quiet, except for when there are childrens' activities on the top floor - then not-so-much. But luckily you can just go downstairs and barely hear the little monsters. The Media dept.s could use an upgrade: very few "new" dvd films ever on hand. And it's nutty that if I want a dvd on religion, I have to know it would be in the books section- which makes NO sense, and needs to be revised. And the music section is unbrowsable the way it's organ

I thoroughly enjoyed my time here because my daughters loved every second of it! Will be coming again to read books!

I tried to borrow a study guide textbook and I was told by Joan that she needed to order the book from another library and that it was going to be a wait. I been calling for the past 6 weeks and nothing. My test was due and the book never arrived and that's what Joan made me think. But, it is obvious that she deliberately did not order this book. THis is call abuse of power. These people, yes, these people is supposed to help and support the community by promoting education and then this. I spoke to the person/director in charged and nothing...not sure what to call it. what a disappointment.

Great space in the heart of the city. Knowledgeable staff, beautiful views, variety of programs for all ages. Used book sales run by the Friends group is a treat for all.
