Customer Reviews
Our go to deli in Carmel. If no street parking ( probably the case) there is ground floor covered parking for about 8 or so cars to use when shopping just at the Nielsen Market. Back to the deli … top shelf sandwiches and the best soup hands down ! The chicken based broth is exceptional. Good enough we drive over from Pacific Grove a couple times a week for the Chicken Orzo soup. Small produce area, but a decent dry goods collection considering the small size of the market. The market is on a corner across the street from Thinker Toys, so we often order a few sandwiches and people / car watch from a small covered front eating area. Highly recommend.
Honestly some of the best sandwiches I've had. Black forest ham with mayo and mustard was just outstanding. My partner had the herb-roasted chicken, melted with Swiss. We came back later for a chicken salad sandwich for the road. Wish I'd gotten photos, but the food was too good to pause for photos. Service was personable, patient, and friendly. Apart from the Deli, the store itself was well-stocked and easy to navigate. Overall, a lovely local store to visit in a charming town. (Don't be misled by the low-4s rating, which is skewed by petty tourists who want low prices without taking into account quality ingredients, Carmel rents, and salaries for skilled employees who are hand-preparing fresh sandwiches and serving customers with heart.)
Nielsen Brothers Market is Carmel’s Best-Kept Secret This market has everything—and we mean everything. The custom sandwiches are delicious, made with fresh, organic ingredients, and perfect for a beach picnic or quick lunch. Their deli salads taste homemade, and the organic produce is top quality. What really sets Nielsen’s apart is the wine and spirits selection—rare finds, excellent variety, and a whiskey collection that rivals any high-end shop. The wine bar and grill menu add a fun, upscale touch to a neighborhood market. We were also impressed by the shelves stocked with organic groceries, from natural skincare to artisanal pastas, jams, candies, and desserts. Friendly staff, clean layout, and so much more than your average market. A must-stop in Carmel! We sure wish we had this
Stopped by Nielsen Brothers Market to pick up a nice bottle of wine. They have a fantastic selection, walked out with an amazing bottle. The owner was excellent to deal with as well!
Quality products in this grocery and great grilled sandwiches, hot dogs and sausages that you can eat on their patio. And have one of their beers or wine by the glass or bottle. Polish and spicy sausage sandwiches are $10, the pictured steak is $20 that is tender and cooked to medium rare. Also deli sandwiches and prepared salads.
