Andrew M, what a kind human being you are! I cannot speak highly enough of how lovely and helpful Andrew was this morning, as he saved me in a pinch before an important job interview. I am extremely grateful, and will be demanding that ALL of my downtown neighbors be getting a library card STAT. Much gratitude from your downtown neighbor! 📚🏙️
This library is small, but it is a necessary resource for Springfield. At the center of the city, there are dangerously limited resources for the homeless community. This library provides a safe, warm place for the homeless and housed, with comfortable seating, computers and plugs to charge devices. Free Wi-Fi that covers the entire square. Locked bathrooms where you can clean yourself up, but they will check on you after 15 minutes, because the homeless community of Springfield is currently struggling with high overdose rates. For what I've seen, the overall homeless community are doing a great job of acting appropriate and cleaning up after themselves while navigating trauma and systemic failures.
The librarians are fantastic. I regrettably will not be returning to this location. I took a friend to get her first library card and the whole process was to the sounds of a security guard and fellow patron detailing the solitary confinement of the worst prisons in the country. While also boasting about the current administrations plans to reopen famously cruel prisons. Id rather have no security than one that laughs and revels in the suffering of incarnated people. And I'd rather go to no library at all than hear a wannabe cops political opinions.
Great place to hang out. Friendly professional staff. They serve as a day shelter for the homeless, so be aware of this if you are planning to visit. I'm disappointed that I walked all the way up to find out that you are closed on Thanksgiving when online it says your open...and further bothered that you claim to have a drop box "always open"...but where is it?!
Great place. The Librarians are very respectful as long as you obey the rules and treat them with respect. Even the Security Guards are very polite and respectful as long as you do the same. It maybe a place to warm up during the Fall and Winter and a place to stay cool during the Spring and Summer. But the place and atmosphere have been great for the most part and I can’t Thank Them Enough. From the bottom of my heart. ❤️😉😇
