Shall I say where to find the worst tasting ramen in Portland? I’m surprised that google is giving this place a 4.4 and was it also recommended on Eater too? Did they change ownership as Eaters indicated a Hawaiian influence here prior. We ordered the fried tofu appetizer and a Hokkaido Miso Ramen and a Veggie Ramen. The kitchen basically reheated the tofu so it tasted soggy and staled. The Hokaido Ramen saving grace is the noodles, which is good but everything else lacks tastes, boiled egg is just boiled and cold inside, pork is not marinated, just slices of boiled pork. The veggie ramen tasted like dish water, not sure if that’s even possible to imitate. The restaurant doesn’t have a single Asian person in the kitchen or among the patrons, usually a red flag for a popular Asian restaur
Had the G-Special Ramen yesterday. I can back today with a client to hit it again. I am going to use this place as my default East side lunch meeting spot. Mike is awesome. Very welcoming and loves what he does. Bonus - They have great whisky!!!
Amazing food - I love the G Special Ramen, really enjoyed the fried tofu bites as well. The crew is super kind and friendly, they greeted us when we walked in and thanked us on the way out. Plus they were training a new cook when we were in at the sushi counter and the kindness we overheard when they were teaching this kid made us happy to see a kitchen that felt full of respect and pride of their food. 10/10 Will come back again and again
it’s a somewhat small shop but damn they make the best of it. it felt super cozy and homey and the workers there were super nice and accommodating. while waiting for food i heard two people compliment the chef which got me excited and i wasn’t let down, i got the tonkatsu ramen and the pork was thick and had so much flavor and on top of that i could drink their broth everyday. i also had two drinks that were both fantastic. will definitely be coming back
Very nice laid back lunch vibes. The G-special ramen was my choice and boy was it incredible. The mushrooms really elevate the broth and add a complex yet delicious umami flavor which I loved.
