Pie Fight

I saw good reviews about this place and gave it a try. I happened to be in downtown and placed the order online for pick up on Saturday night. When I arrived, there was nobody at the window, it was raining, after calling at the window and rang the bell three times, finally the staff show up—no apology whatsoever. I informed him that I’m picking up my order. He asked “what did you order?”, not order number or my name. Anyway, I reread my order: blueberry lemon, apple crumble, and boston cream. He then scooped a pie from the tray and put in the box then grabbed two additional, already-packed boxes and gave them to me without saying anything—no thanks or whatsoever. Since the boxes are closed and he asked me to repeat my order, I didn’t open each box to check and rush back to my car so I don’

The most hole in the wall place ever, but truly such a hidden gem! We have come to 9th a million times for other locations we love and had never noticed the Pie Fight. If you blink you’ll miss this unassuming local business. We order the apple crumble mini pie, and the woman who took our order was the sweetest (not sure if she was the owner?). When we asked last minute if we could add a scoop of ice cream she did it free of charge, which she didn’t have to do and was so thoughtful. The pie crust was buttery and flakey, the filling was delicious and they even warmed up the pie. Definitely a new favorite, and we will be coming back here again! Just a note, there’s only outside seating but no chairs probably due to it being winter. But there are benches nearby or you can take it to go.

Fun little place to check out for pastries and small baked goods. We got the peanut butter bar and it was honestly delicious. If you get it, ask them to warm it up for you! Definitely planning on going back to try some of their savory items.

Awesome literal hole in the wall! Fun hand pies and flavors. Def would recommend for a treat. Workers always nice. Pies are a tad expensive in my opinion, but not horrible. This is a to go restaurant, you walk up to the window and order. Super fun! Not open very late so gotta get there in time.

Highlights: A fantastic new addition to the 9th & 9th draw, this walk-up hand pie shop is the perfect fit. Food: Hands down these are the best filled pastries I’ve had. The crust is flaky and buttery, while holding together well in hand, and the fillings are flavorful and plentiful. With pastries like this, the filling can sometimes be minimal and fall flat, but that’s not the case here. Excellent ratios, unique flavors, and perfectly sized. Ambiance: Simple outdoor order window (so timely for a pandemic era dessert shop). Experience: Fantastic. Great food, great service, easy accessibility.
