Pioneer of Texas

Great place for an affordable meal! Stopped with my friend who is familiar with the area. One of her go to's. Food and service were great! And I loved all the old John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, and Lone ranger memorabilia.

Tried this place last week, was really hoping for at-least a decent meal. But everything was horrible! The chicken fried steak that they served was old and microwaved! I know! because the oil was pooling on top! Gravy was also burnt as in you can taste the burnt flour! and really who serves gravy on the bottom of a chicken fried steak! The whole thing was completely inedible! I tried a couple of bites and stopped eating! The ribs were at least edible according to my brother, but again the brisket that was served was old and dry and tasteless! The only decent food that was served to us was the onion rings! 02-22-2025 Me and my Bf ate here and we were choosing between here or McBride, we decided pioneers because we were looking for a new experience and new food! Let’s just say it definitely landed on our NEVER. TO GO TO AGAIN list! Let’s start with my plate and the issues I got the lunch special with the 6 oz sirloin with a side of mashed potato’s and a salad. The server came and gave me my plate, with a baked potato instead of mashed! Which she did fix so points for her but honestly I wish I did not get it fixed!!! My steak looked like it was cooked in a microwave, not a single flavor and too hard to cut through. It was flavorless and chewy, I felt like Gordon Ramsey on Kitchen nightmares! As he once said “ I wouldn’t even feed my dog this bullshit” moving on I tried the steak did not like

Come on down to this classic Texas eatery and get full on their hearty meals. Mostly homestyle cooking, they do still offer a wider variety, including some Mexican food offerings. Packed with ranch, Texas, and Western style memorabilia, the atmosphere is homey and nostalgic and patrons will enjoy seeing all of this. Our food was hot, fresh, and delicious. I highly recommend this establishment. Our server, Catherine, was friendly and polite and is a hard-working Texas mom. We loved her and her hospitality.

I loved the seafood combo with french fries & onion rings! So good! My companion said she wished the chicken fried steak had been a bit crisper- was just a little soggy. Although the gravy was really delicious, she missed the crunch! Our server was awesome and attentive! We'll be back again soon
