Portermill

Airport restaurant. The servers are very busy. They probably could have used more help. Burger was dry. Fries were yummy. Pretzel tasted frozen and reheated.

Really good breakfast! I was pleasantly surprised by how good the breakfast was at Portermill in the Des Moines airport. I had the egg and bacon breakfast sandwich with hash browns and the sandwich was fantastic. I would actually make a point to be in the airport and have time for breakfast next time. Server was nice and attentive. Can't go wrong sitting by the window watching airplanes before getting on a flight.

Started off with a cranberry juice which was good but super sweet with way too much sugar. The cheese curds were amazing however they took probably over 30 minutes just to get. Which is ridiculous considering the place wasn't nearly that busy, which is why the low rating because the service was below par for the amount of customers in here. I watched the waitress a handful of times and she would just wonder around aimlessly or stand there not doing anything at times. Never coming back to check on our drinks except when our order was delivered, never brought us napkins. I also watched her deliver the wrong food to a table, and then give the wrong check to a different table. So it wasn't just us she was messing up. This is why you don't hire tweakers. I got really low expectations for airport restaurants. Still, this one is not too bad. I would say it is on par with other regular restaurants in Iowa. Good price, good selection of local beers. Really doesn’t feel like rip-off airport restaurant. Can’t complain. Good service, spacious, good to kill time on delays.

Your bartender is extremely rude and needs to learn customer service. Today at noon 12/7/25. Didn’t even order. I was turned off by the service. Servers and bartenders should communicate better. Server said place to go order with bartender and then bartender said server does that. When I asked to place an order she said when I’m done with these guys I’ll take yours but that’s a serve that does that. I said well we were here before those two. She gave me like she was racist! I was Hispanic and she wanted to serve the two white guys first.
