Public Beach Access - Honopiilani Park

If you are staying in MK806 this is a great way to connect from the Maui Kai and get to great beach areas, Duke's Beach House or take the boardwalk to Airport Beach. You'll be greeted by about a dozen feral cats so bring some treats. These cats are a local colony and help keep the rodent population down but appreciate a few cat treats for their services. Also great for beach front sunsets!

Lots of parking, clean bathrooms great place with kids. Also showers were a plus!

Be careful as to your timing. The gates are locked to the parking lot when the beach closes so if you go late to look at stars you may not be able to drive out

WARNING: don't park here to see the sunset or your car will be TRAPPED INSIDE! We had come to relax at the beach, which was itself quite nice. After viewing a beautiful 7pm sunset, we were horrified to discover upon returning to our car that the outside gates to the park had been closed and padlocked, trapping our car and numerous others inside. There was a tiny, easy-to-miss sign at the gate that said that gates were to be closed from 7pm-3am, but there was otherwise no warning, and no number to call to get us out. The 7pm closure is unreasonably early (no other park in the area closes earlier than 8pm) and seems meant to intentionally trap non-local visitors inside. We were lucky we had a small car, allowing us to escape by the skin of our teeth by driving on the sidewalk, but many other
