Sherrill Ranch Cabin

Terrible experience. If I could give less than one star, I would! The twin bed I slept on was so hard and uncomfortable, I woke up with a back ache each night. The floor it was on had a slope to it so I felt like I would roll of the bed each night. The sheets didn't fit right and there was no place to hang clothes. Not even a chair in the room. We rented the place for 6 nights. The rats in the house woke us up 3 nights in a row!!! At first we thought they were in the attic, only to have the couple who stayed with us tell us they found them running through the house during the night. Even across the top of the kitchen counter!! The next night, one rat got stuck in a sticky trap that was under the toilet. It ran though the house until it shimmed under the refrigerator, trap and all!!!

We booked one of Sherrill Ranch cabins for a Saturday stay. When we got there the power was out across all of Young area. Dave the caretaker was very reassuring and actually shared stories of power issues in the valley from his childhood there. And reinforced that it wouldn’t be long before it was restored. It was only about an hour and we had power. Daves story was historical of the valley and a real treat to hear. What a great process of turning a negative situation into something informative, giving us a little nostalgic history! The elk bugled around our cabin through the night and gave us a beautiful scene over coffee the next morning as they grazed around us. This is a must experience place! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Sherrill Ranch Cabin. It was a welcome reprieve from the heat, traffic, and noise of where we live. We brought our dog who enjoyed our leashless hikes. We heard elk, coyotes and neighboring cows at night. The stars at night were like a kaleidoscope. Wonderful escape. The drive wasn't fun, but definately better by way of Payson, not Globe.

I am hesitant to post this review because The Sherrill Ranch Cabin (located in Young, AZ) is one of the best kept secret getaways in the Southwest. If more people knew about this place, it would surely be booked solid for the next 10 years! I took my boyfriend and mother to the Cabin for a much needed escape from the stress of city life. We were all blown away; all expectations were exceeded by our well-traveled crew! The tranquility, remoteness, and natural beauty was bountiful. The absence of light pollution made for excellent star gazing: the bright strip of The Milky Way galaxy was mesmerizing. This would be a great place to visit during a meteor shower. Nice little 2B/1B place. Secluded and quiet. Lots of elk and coyotes can be heard at night. Fully stocked kitchen and bathroom. Amazingly quick response when we needed something fixed while there. Everyone in town was super nice. Great food and service.
