I was drawn in by the interior, it really feels like a ramen shop in Japan. The staff were very efficient, and the food came out quickly, which really stood out to me since many other restaurants take much longer. The tonkotsu ramen was delicious, and the portion was more than enough. It’s also a great place for photos. I came with my Japanese friend, who told me that many Japanese celebrities have visited this place.
Great food, this is my first ramen in New York… and I’m surprised that they serve really good ramen. Fantastic soup, pork was really tasty and soft, noodles cooked at perfect firmness. Love it. Just my table was very close to the toilet, so sometimes the smell of the cleaning liquid was pretty strong and it definitely makes me want to finish the bowl and go. Otherwise, I’m very satisfied with the ramen.
First off, I recommend you make reservations for this Ramen spot. My cousin made reservations for five people for 2pm. I came here with my family for our reservation and this place was packed. So I recommend a reservation because there was a small wait even with a reservation. Also this restaurant is small and a bit cramped so it isn’t very spacious. The service at this ramen spot was okay and could have been a little better. As for the food it also wasn’t too bad. I got the Mapo Don with extra udon and miso soup. I feel like the Mapo Don would have been better with a side of rice instead of the udon.
The black ink tonkotsu was pretty amazing. I hadn't had that type of ramen before and I really enjoyed it. Loved the crispy garlic too. The pork slices could have been more "melt in your mouth", but it was still fantastic.
The $17 tonkotsu ramen lunch set (with chashu pork rice and hijiki salad) was a comforting meal, perfect for cold weather. The black king ramen with squid ink is another great option, highlighting Shinjuku’s mastery of the broth and the noodle texture. Dining would have been a near-perfect experience had service been more welcoming. Even during the busy lunch period, there is no place for being curt and snappish,
