Very cozy Ukrainian spot in the heart of West Village. We came here on Sunday afternoon and were able to find seats and have a peaceful lunch by the window. Borscht and Olivier was excellent, staff was very friendly. Definitely coming back soon!
The place is clean and the service was friendly, but my experience with the pelmeni was disappointing. The dish looked different from the photos posted by the restaurant, and the portion felt underwhelming for the price — especially considering it came out to over $20 after tax for just 10 dumplings, which set higher expectations. I’m not sure if the pelmeni are cooked to order or prepared ahead of time, but the texture and seasoning were off. While the meat filling itself tasted fine, the dough was overcooked, undersalted, and noticeably thick — more like vareniki — which made the dumplings bland and heavy overall. I haven’t tried other menu items, but based on this visit, I wouldn’t recommend ordering the pelmeni and likely wouldn’t return.
If you’re looking for truly authentic Ukrainian food, this place is a hidden gem in West Village New York. Real Ukrainian borsch, oliv’ye salad and syrnyky were out of this world. Don’t skip the desserts! Everything was made with love, just like at home in Ukraine. Highly recommend for anyone craving real, authentic Ukrainian cuisine!
The absolute epitome of authentic, home-cooked Ukrainian food. The tastes from this place brought me right back to my visit there. No overly greasy/salted restaurant-esque flair added to the dishes, the food tastes like its straight from the kitchen of any traditional Ukrainian home. The pork dumplings had a delicious tender and flavorful filling, with a soft and just-chewy outside. Sour cream is a must-have for dipping. The green borscht was filling, homey, and comforting, with eggs, potatoes, and an assortment of fresh herbs that really filled out the broth. Always delicious with sour cream :) The summer salad with cucumbers, cabbage, and dill was light and refreshing. A perfect example of how a few simple fresh ingredients can make a great dish. The restaurant itself is small and
Varenyky and borshch were good. The more I try something else the more disappointed I get. Carrot salad was horrible, don’t even know the recipe with cooked onions and such a huge pieces of a garlic. For $10 that’s a huge no, unfortunately had to throw it. Plov is another disappointment— dry rice with a galina blanka taste. You can’t even call it plov guys that’s an embarrassment for our culture. Highly recommend to try green borshch and red borshch. Hope the quality and the taste haven’t changed. Talking about desserts — medovyk was another disappointment.
