South Tampa Family YMCA

We visited while out of town (with our nationwide family membership) for a few hours. The outdoor pools were very nice and locker rooms outside were super convenient! The front desk employee was very friendly in getting us checked in. There was also a small playground in the shade too! Would definitely stop by again while in town.

I love this place! My second child is learning to swim and absolutely loves it. The coach is really great, too. It’s the second closest location to our home, but I prefer this one, so we always come here. The parking lot is spacious, and the location is very convenient.

It’s more than a gym to workout. It’s about relationships. Everyone is so friendly compared to other gyms I visit. Our instructor encourages us and brings in a wholistic view of health; mind, body & soul. I love it! Their aquatic center is beautiful and well maintained. It’s design allows me to feel more like I am at a relaxing park and not like stuck in my old crowded high school gym class.

We’ve been members at the South Tampa YMCA for a while and were drawn in by the promise of family-friendly amenities, but the overall experience has been disappointing — especially during the summer months. The family pool is now closed until noon on weekdays to accommodate camp programs. While we understand the need to serve campers, this schedule is extremely inconvenient for families with young children who typically swim earlier in the day before naps. It feels like regular members are being sidelined. Even on weekends, when the slide is advertised to open at noon, it’s almost never operational. There are plenty of staff walking around supervising, yet no one ever steps in to actually open the slide. It’s frustrating to see excited kids show up just to be told it’s closed again. Acc
