TAO KAY restaurant 头家（潮汕味道）

I was very excited to see another ChaoShan 潮汕 restaurant opened in SGV. Though this one could have so much potential, my experience wasn’t the best. When we arrived around 7:30pm on a Wednesday, there were no customers. The staff were still lacking on us, and took a wrong order. We needed to go to them for service. Food was ok, but not impressive.

I recently tried this Chaozhou (Chaoshan) restaurant and was very impressed. The food was authentic and full of flavor. The beef was outstanding — tender slices of beef cooked in a rich, savory broth. The marinated goose and oyster omelet were also delicious, and they really brought out the unique taste of Chaoshan cuisine. The staff were warm and attentive, making sure our tea cups were always full. The atmosphere was lively yet comfortable, and the restaurant was clean and well-kept. Prices were reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. Overall, it’s a fantastic place to enjoy traditional Chaoshan food, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to experience authentic flavors from southern China.

A very cost-effective shop, the beef noodle for $15 is very meaty. In addition, the staff is very responsible and takes the initiative to care for the dog in the car park.

We went with four adults and ordered 7 dishes as we were excited to try a new place. The decor makes the place seem upscale, but the service is significantly lacking. We had a table with the turntable top, but the waitress didn’t really take advantage of it. Food was being served from every angle and sauces were spilled while being served. Soup was just left on the table, no bowls for the soup. In general, the two waiters felt like they did not want to be there. Some of the dishes had great presentation, and we can tell the chefs care about the dishes. Overall, not worth the price and effort to visit again.

Worse ever experience on Lunar New Year day. They don’t have enough staff. Only one waitress taking care of all the restaurants. We seated for 20min. No one greeting us or taking our order. Finally they start taking orders from people come later than us. We told them we were here first and keep letting them know we ready to order but they don’t listen at all. We end up with leave without having anything.
