Taqueria La Prieta Mamona

Been here a couple of times already, and I really don’t understand nor agree with the bad reviews. This place has been CONSISTENTLY good. The people that complain about the salsas, I don’t get it. They have 5 salsas and all five are good and taste fresh every single time I’ve visited. The trompo and the arrachera are GREAT! Very well seasoned and tender, I will admit that the trompo negro isn’t that impressive, but I would assume it’s cause of how they make the black recado. Not a deal breaker, I just don’t order it. Service has been nothing but excellent, friendly and courteous to us. Based on my experiences, I wholeheartedly recommend this place.

The best way to start out trip to McAllen from Sweden! We ordered the guacamole with pork belly, elote corn (off the cob), Tijuana tostada, and mixed tacos. The tostada was incredible, but it was hard to pick a favorite because we were blown away by every single dish. Very high quality ingredients, homemade salsas, care and pride every moment of service. As well, the atmosphere is very friendly, laid back, and great music. We will always have beautiful memories of this dinner and learning so much about Mexico City cuisine. Thank you so much for this wonderful evening, we hope to be back!

6/13/25: The food was very good. The meat had a great flavor to them. Went with parents, they had tacos and I had a sincronizada. I also got pico de gallo with guacamole. Charro beans were also good. Would go again but I would order to go. They have tables outside but it's hot.

I came from out of town & this stop did not disappoint! Best tacos in town! Great service! Will definitely be coming back!

Honestly hands down some of the best tacos the RGV has to offer in my opinion, these tacos paired with their salsa hit the spot. Also the elote was super delicious. 10/10 would go again
