Customer Reviews
This place used to be a lot better. The atmosphere is still nice. But the bartender is pretentious and rude, along with looking totally unkempt. Kinda came off like a less efficient Napoleon behind the bar, acting hurried and angry when it really wasn't that busy. Interesting and a little sad to watch how he treated different people seemingly based on if he thought they were cool. I saw a few customers walk away looking confused by his demeanor. It's a shame one unhappy sub-par bartender can give the place a black eye. But looking at the other reviews here, it appears that's the case.
A group of friends and I went to this bar for drinks after attending a law school event recently. We were all in suits and ties. Bartender immediately yelled at us and said she wouldn’t serve groups larger than five. We offered to wait in between orders and only get one drink per person at a time. One member of the group - the only person of color in the cohort - ordered a drink and carried it outside to the rails where other patrons were drinking and smoking. Bartender came outside, grabbed his drink out of his hand, threw it in the street, and walked back inside the bar with the empty glass. She then poked fun at two members of the group who pointed out that she was being discriminatory and rude. I will never go back. Shame on the Bishop, shame on its ownership, and shame on that shitty
If your idea of the perfect bar conversation is talking about different cooking techniques that should be applied to billionaires to make them edible, childhood trauma caused by the trough urinals at Wrigley Field, and why the bartender is scared of fresh eggs, all while The Clash play in the background, this may be your favorite bar in Bloomington. It is mine. It is dark. There are no TVs. The beer and spirits are well curated. Plus the barkeeps know how to have an actual conversation. A true gem of a bar.
My server was incredibly kind and helped me decide on an exciting, new German beer to try for the night!!
Fun place to grab a drink, gather with friends, catch a performance, or just hang by oneself at the bar. Many beers on tap. Now wine, too, best lemonades ;)
