The Catch Lubbock

We stopped by for dinner at The Catch in Lubbock TX. Dad and my brother both ordered the Catfish plate . This comes with fries and Hush Puppies. My brother also ordered extra Hush Puppies. I ordered the Catfish and Shrimp Plate. This plate also comes with fries and Hush Puppies. I also ordered a bowl of Gumbo. I was pleasantly surprised how really good the fish and shrimp were. The fish was crispy and the Shrimp cooked perfectly. The Hush Puppies were the best I've ever eaten. Unfortunately not the same for the Gumbo. The dish lacked flavor, I could not detect the dark roux flavor. I also noticed the thin slices of sausage were cut in half I really could not taste it. Overall it was a great experience.

Picked up food today. The fries were good but the fish was a bit undercooked. My husband got oysters and they were nothing but crust and a hard oyster about the size of a pea inside. The price was lower than most seafood places in town but so was the quality.

Went as soon at it opened. Everything was hot and fresh. Catfish and shrimp was very good. Shrimp etouffee was about a 3.

I have eaten at The Catch many times over the past years. I have only praise for the deliciously prepared catfish I received each time. Today, however, something was very off. I ordered the fried catfish basket as is my custom. I sat down in a booth, and within 90 seconds my food was given to me. Wow! I thought. This is great service. The fried catfish I received was so overcooked that it was very dry and difficult to eat. The breading was so thick and salty that I could not taste the fish. The French fries were equally hard and dry. I could not help but think maybe the fish and fries were leftovers and had been refried in order to serve them warm. Sometimes we do not get what we expect, but this was troubling for me. I will hope for better next time.

The outside of this place is a little misleading from how the inside looks, I would say that it’s a small step above Long John Slivers… now this doesn’t mean the food isn’t good! We first had it doordashed and it was fantastic. Today, we went in store and were surprised by the casualness as well as a TV showing a llama getting its eye ball ripped out ( some vet show was on) which was extremely unappetizing🤢 after that we went and sat outside which was nice as all the TVs were off. Overall the food was really good, greatly enjoyed the catfish. I would say as consistent with some of the other reviews that the shrimp étouffée lacked depth and flavor, but was still enjoyable. Next time we crave fish, we will just have it delivered again.
