The Depot Grille

As I work on improving my healthy eating habits, a friend told me about a fantastic salad I had to try at The Depot Grille. It’s called the Toosday Chicken Salad, and I’ll admit — I was a little skeptical about the ingredients: mixed greens, Granny Smith apples, candied pecans, feta cheese, and mesquite-grilled chicken with poppyseed dressing. Let me assure you… they absolutely knew what they were doing with these flavors! The smoky yet juicy grilled chicken paired perfectly with the tang of the apples and the crunch of the pecans, all smoothed out by the creamy feta and that delightful dressing — it was simply sensational! A must try and the atmosphere was perfect for a friend get together or date night!

Food was good but very slow to come out to us! It was just 2 of us and it took over an hour. Portion sizes were very small, which is different from normal. I told the waitress when my husband asked for mushrooms on his steak that I was allergic to them, but then when the sad salads came out, they both had mushrooms on top of them. I’ve never heard of a restaurant that puts mushrooms on their side salads. See the picture of my salmon. It’s at least half the size of it normally was. We’ve been here MANY times before and the food is always good but it’s definitely changed. I don’t know that I will be back for a while. Service was good, and the bus boy was great!

Stopped by here when spending the night in Staunton. We LOVED it. Great vibe. Wonderful staff at all levels. And good food to boot. We enjoyed the bar for a little bit, t hen went to the table, and finished with a nightcap at the little Depot Lounge next door.

What an amazing place from the atmosphere of an old train station, such history and ambience to the incredible wooden floors, expensive bar and dining room tables. The service by Sarah was awesome and super friendly! Happy hour from 4 PM until 7 PM. Had a wide variety of snacks to pick from and I ordered the potato skins for six dollars and it consisted of three giant baked potatoesloaded with bacon and cheese. There are plenty of leftovers for later. I ordered the smothered chicken with bacon and cheddar and mushrooms, paired up with a garden salad and broccoli and everything was cooked to perfection and very fresh. This place is a gem!

This place just feels good the second you walk in — warm, inviting, and super comfortable. It’s the kind of cozy neighborhood spot you could hang out in for hours. And the food? So good. I ordered the salmon and I’m still thinking about it. The toast was perfectly crisp — not too hard, just that ideal crunch — and the tomato slice was this deep, gorgeous red and unbelievably juicy. Everything tasted so fresh and balanced. The salmon paired so well with the classic flavors, it felt familiar but a little elevated at the same time. It’s one of those sandwiches you don’t want to end. Definitely adding this to my regular rotation. If you’re looking for a relaxed vibe with seriously solid food, this is it.
