The First Post

We recently hosted our daughter‘s baby shower there, in the portrait room upstairs of the restaurant. We want to thank all who were involved in making this an amazing event! Lori event planner manager, Athena, the servers that day were Molly and Jake and Brendan, Manager. They went above and beyond to make this absolutely perfect, and we appreciate it so much. This was my first time at The First Post, and it was a great experience. There were 14 of us in our dinner party, and they did an excellent job accommodating our group. TFP set up an area for my family where we could comfortably enjoy each other’s company. My family and I had a wonderful experience overall. The atmosphere at The First Post was welcoming, friendly, and laid-back. The layout of the dining area, along with the pictures on the walls, gave the place a nice, chill vibe. The food was good—I ordered the fish and chips, and it did not disappoint. The portions of fish were generous, well-cooked, and delicious. My wife and I can’t stop talking about how much we enjoyed both the food and the experience at TFP. We will definitely be returning soon.

First Post is a fixture in our regular date night rotation and for good reason as you can always count on great food and attentive service. The charred octopus was an interesting combination of tastes. The bowl of cream of crab was one of the better ones we tasted though it was so very rich and filling that a cup would have been more suitable. The crab cakes and salmon were excellent, cooked to perfection with great flavors. We left full and satisfied. We will definitely be back!

Overpriced and underfriendly. We've lived in York for six years now and have been going to the First Post all this time -- with mixed results. Generally, we have no major complaints, but there are a few pet peeves. And, unfortunately, our last visit on New Year's Eve (2025) was our worst visit yet. Let's start with the young ladies at the front desk. Their cordiality often seems forced. When we walk in, we always test them, saying, "hello," then deliberately pausing for a response. Most of the time, they can't be bothered to return our greeting. They just look at you with a "What do you want?" kinda look. This last visit was one of those times. Whatever. No biggie. More importantly, the food has gotten more expensive, yet the portions have gotten much smaller. My girlfriend ordered the

Kevin at the bar was awesome. The kitchen also did a great good with the flank steak. (The demi-glace was delicious and they did a great job with adding some color to the blue cheese I put on top.)
