The French Pantry - St. Augustine

Dined at The French Pantry on Valentine’s Day weekend with no reservation on a Friday night. The host was wonderful and very accommodating — moved a couple of tables and had us seated (party of 2) within minutes, which was impressive. Ted, our server, was friendly, welcoming, and informative. The escargot was fabulous. The roasted beet salad (special) had nice flavor, but the beets were hard and didn’t seem roasted. I ordered the scallop special — they were just okay and unfortunately served cold. My husband’s flounder with piccata sauce (also a special) was delicious. We had two drinks, sparkling water, and took a slice of Yummi Yummi cake to go. Overall, good service and a solid dinner, but not amazing. I’d return, but it’s not a standout for me.

It’s a spacious, modern restaurant with window walls, overlooking historic buildings and tropical gardens. The food was great, in particular the wagyu appetizer. Free parking in the middle of the old town is a big plus. They also have a Vietnamese sister restaurant in the same building, but we haven’t tried it yet.

Took my son here for his birthday and loved the ambiance and being in Saint Augustine. The food is just as amazing as the Jacksonville Restaurant. We had the Turkey Gouda sandwich, Chicken Panini, Bang bang, shrimp as appetizer, bang bang shrimp salad, & Kobe burger. Great service and our waiter had excellent recommendations. Lots of flavors and does not disappoint. Best part was dessert. You have to get the wedding cake and carrot cake they are delicious.

I have always been a big fan of the French Pantry at its Power’s Avenue location in Jacksonville. The vibe was always cool, where you are dining with people you don’t know and even seeing the occasional celebrity on a visit. The St Augustine version is very very different, more like a traditional restaurant, so without the first location’s quirks. First, I need to tell you that this is a very different location, it features: - full bar - dinner hours (open till 8:00 PM) - a private dining room - cooking classes - dinner menu - a beautiful and large dining room. Had a great lunch here today! Beautiful interior and lovely atmosphere. Service was excellent as were all the dishes we had! We had bang bang shrimp, bruschetta, French onion soup, pork buns, and rice noodles with chicken. We sat in one of the middle tables by the bar so we could order from the French or Vietnamese menus. Loved it all!
