Customer Reviews
Walking into The Gift Horse in Foley feels a little like stepping into a movie set, part historic Southern charm, part time machine. The old building, the decorations, the atmosphere… it’s like the place politely ignored the last hundred years and kept everything good about the past. Now let’s talk about the fried chicken. If scientists in Jurassic Park can bring dinosaurs back to life, surely someone could study this recipe and preserve it for humanity. Crispy, perfectly seasoned, and so good it might make you question every other piece of fried chicken you’ve ever eaten. Then there are the desserts. These aren’t the tiny, polite desserts you find at trendy restaurants. These are the kind your grandma would approve of; generous, rich, and powerful enough to make you forget whatever diet
We ate there on Tuesday November 25,2025. The food was not hot and some of it was not presented well. The fried chicken was cut up pieces of chicken breast and I did not recognize what they said was baked chicken. The vegetables taste like they had just been dumped out of a can. The only 'bread' was hushpuppies. The whole experience was terrible!
NEAT BUILDING ! Lots of history since being built in 1912 .They have a huge lunch buffet . I wasn't that hungry , so I had soup and salad bar for $9 . Shrimp Bisque & Swamp Soup were very good . House dressing was awesome, and the fried biscuits were delicious . My friendly , helpful waitress informed me that dessert was only included in the lunch buffet . I asked about the pudding cake & she told me to go get some on the house . Southern hospitality at its finest ! I hope I tipped her enough !
A very tasteful restaurant. The food was quite good and unique. It tends to have an older crowd. I sat next to a couple in there early 20s. They complained about what they were eating so I tried it myself. I'm not sure what it was they were actually complaining about, to me it was quite good. I also saw some people leave because of the price, for witch I was fine with as they were not people I wanted to be in company with. Think of the price like how some beaches charge 5 dollars to enter. It keeps a certain crowed out .
The Gift Horse Restaurant was an adventure all it's own. It's southern style buffet offers some of the best food in the area. It was truly a wonderful experience for the taste buds.
