Pizza is great! Love the Denver Thin crust. Chewy and crispy/crackery at the same time. Sauce super flavorful. Pizzas do take awhile since there are so much toppings on them, so don't go jn a hurry or call ahead.
The Great Plains Sauce & Dough Company is one of the best appointed and quaint restaurants in Ames, Iowa. The pizzas are good but unremarkable. The service was a little indifferent. Atmosphere was both tasteful and a little quirky. Very well done. Reasonable prices so you can’t really go wrong.
4 ovens, 7 people and i think another for delivery. place was packed, almost constant line to order. i get it, it's totally busy. if you're thinking about take out, highly recommend calling it in. if you're dining in, an extra pitcher while you wait is a good idea. it's a popular place, and several people in line mentioned it's their 'go to' and 10 out of 10. i get it, so busy that everyone there were focused on getting the orders out. customers waited for tables, bussed their tables and took care of their drinks+refills on their own. truly a family friendly local place. nothing is rushed, but fair warning, there may be some wait after you order. again, highly recommended that you call in your order. maybe even if your dining in. when they're totally busy, your order may take as much as
Love this place and have been eating here since they opened. The wheat crust pizza with honey is Heaven! My favorite part is the huge amount of cheese they use. It separates them from every other pizza place. The only negatives I can think of is the noise level and the awful restroom facilities. I kind of thought after 46 yrs the restrooms might have been improved. Access is a challenge but for people who have difficulty with stairs or have wheelchairs it's impossible.
I was back in home in Iowa a few months ago and completely forgot to post this review. We met some family here on my last night in Iowa before heading back to AZ. There were 5 people in our party as well as my service dog. Needless to say, it was quite cramped. But once the pizzas made it to our table, we were completely lost in conversation and amazing food. The staff was very friendly in spite of my Iowa Hawkeyes hat, lol. Met a few other customers we knew from days gone by. By the time we left, our appetites were sated and our hearts full. Thank you to everyone in your establishment who made this a great night!
