The Old Pinnix

What an awesome place. We just PCSed back to Cherry Point and I’m always looking for cool places to relax with some hot tea or coffee. This place did not disappoint at all. I loved that tea pot and all the tea options they had! Definitely need to go back for some dessert. I overheard someone saying how good the cheesecake was!

“I know where we can go for lunch,” my mom said. “The Old Pinnix. It’s a Jason place.” In my mother's parlance, that means authenticity, local color, and food or drink that feels like you may have stumbled onto the next James Beard winner before the rest of the world does. She lives in New Bern. I don’t. But when she says something fits my taste, I pay attention. The Old Pinnix occupies a former drugstore established around 1913 beside the railway depot, and it wears its history well. A model train rests on the shelf above the door. Amazing little jewel in downtown New Bern with great service and perfectly crafted cocktails. I ordered the Havana with ham and pulled pork which was a smoky and flavorful delight. Will definitely be back.

I was in from out of town and my friend (who is a local) and I were choosing a spot for mid week lunch. We chose this place based on the ambiance from reviews and generally because it has basically perfect 5 stars. And it did not disappoint! We brought my friend's two kids and (to be clear, while it was not busy) the kids enjoyed dancing to the music while we sat and enjoyed a drink. I can't say enough good things about the menu. I had the Cherry Rosemary Old fashioned, my friend had the dragon fruit basil smash. Both drinks were absolutely amazing. My friend is gluten free and was able to order a gluten-free toast while I had the sourdough. We both ordered the highly recommended goat cheese, avocado, mango salsa and bacon topped toast. I enjoyed the look and feel of the place. The vanilla cinnamon bun latte and avocado toast (on sourdough) were amazing! Service from start to finish was great! Would definitely come back.
