The Original Rainbow Cone

So glad that the newer Buona locations have The Original Rainbow Cone parlors attached to them, never have to go far for some dessert. What I've always admired about the ice cream here is the layered style, first I ever had was the Minty City at another location prior for those like me who love Mint Chocolate Chip. Any trip to a Buona that has a TORC, I automatically know we're not leaving til my boys get their filll of ice cream. For those who may not know, if you want a milkshake then you have to get it from the Buona side. Always a great companion to awesome Chicago eats and hope this location on both sides stay busy for decades to come.

This place isn’t even showing on the map yet, brand new, but I don’t think it will be open very long. For one thing, it’s a classic example of “just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.” 3 of us went here, and 2 of the 3 orders got messed up. There are a LOT of rules to abide by…. Only some ice creams can be slices and the others have to be regular scoops, but regular scoops are HUUUUUGE compared to slices. Our kid wanted slices because they looked small, but wasn’t interested in the rainbow cone flavors and… ordering was just extremely confusing. The rainbow cone flavors were just weird together, I’d never get that combination again. Also the seating area and floor were kind of a mess but it wasn’t even that busy. Don’t bother ordering in advance. Placed an order, went to pick it up, was told they did not have that available and offered a substitute. We never received a notification that it was not available. Would have been nice to let us know before we drove all the way there. Now we have to look for a different option for today’s birthday celebration.

If you go here be sure you have plenty of time to wait. They will take every order in line before preparing anything, resulting in an absurd wait time. I’m not exaggerating, I waited 13 minutes for a single cone. Not worth it.

This is what a double and single cup of ice cream looks like!! Very stingy!! Literally got 2 half scoops (that was the double) for $6.00.
