THE REST STOP

I took a gamble on crab rangoons at a snack bar... Bold move, I know. Unfortunately, the filling was a letdown: No noticeable crab flavor, no green onion, just warm cream cheese in an unevenly fried clam shell. The buffalo chicken sandwich looked promising but felt confused. Thick breading, little chicken, and buffalo sauce only on the bun? Toss it or dunk it next time for full flavor. Fries were fine, but they ran out of ketchup (a snack bar sin). For $27, I expected more, but with some small upgrades, this place could easily become a local gem.

Great location! Lake views make this the perfect, casual, place to hang. We were tour cycling through and stopped for a beer and food. Got the buffalo chicken sandwich with fries and it was really good with a big solid piece of chicken and excellent seasoning. Met the owners who are super chill. Loved it so much we came back! Got the fish Po' boy sandwich "special" this time and though it was good, I wish I had gotten the chicken! Food is from the food truck. The beers "on tap" were actually cans when we were there, but there was a good variety. If I find myself on Grand Isle again, I will definitely be visiting The Rest Stop once more!

I was going to say that this place is way expensive, however I forgot that it was the Northeast.. and everything is way more expensive than the Midwest.. with that said, expect to pay an average of $20 per person minimum. The workers were really nice and friendly, and will strike up conversations with you if you want but they will not be pushy if you don’t want to talk. The view is amazing and I honestly didn’t want to leave.. The only real complaint I have is the lack of seating, for as busy as they are I would definitely expand.. but then again I have no clue how to run a business or the rules involved at the location. If I ever come back up here and am in the area.. I will definitely hit this place up again!

Reading through some of the lower star reviews… I think some people don’t really “get it” - this is a seasonal bar, with a food truck offering service from the parking lot. If you need a place to try “fresh” new cuisine or entertain your kids for an hour, this probably is not that. If you want to have a beer and see some other people from town who may stop through, and have a French fry while you’re at it, this place is sweet. Beer and wine, cocktails are canned. Simple.

Great little spot off the road with a nice deck to sit outside and enjoy the lake and scenery. Oh and they’ve got a bar with draft beer! I ordered a lobster roll and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was! Seriously yummy
