A Native New Yorker here. This is one of my most favorite parts of the entire NYPL ecosystem. To have this stunning room to study, read, reflect, and write is a dream come true. Just being surrounded by the antique books and publications is a privilege. I am so appreciative of the quiet rules they enforce for those who are using the Rose Main Reading Room. And the fact that I can bring my laptop to study and do research. The area has many great places to eat depending on one's budget, from fast food to authentic, high-end meals. So after a great day of studying & progress, one can treat him/herself to a nice meal before going home.

On my trip to New York I needed somewhere I can focus on my work (I work remotely). This place is nestled in the museum on the third floor. There are some tourists in the morning but after that it is a fantastic place to settle down and focus. I’m astonished that an incredibly place like this is available for free. The chairs are a little hard, but otherwise the wifi is passable and there are outlets on the tables for charging. It really is an incredible ambiance compared to your standard library back home.

Cannot believe that I had not been here. It is truly beautiful and iconic and def a must when in NYC. Cannot wait to do the tour since it was the only part I didn't get to do. But walking through the beautiful detailed architecture was like being in Europe. And of course, SATC moments are all over. HE IS NOT COMING ! HE IS NOT COMING ! GET ME OUT OF HERE! GET ME OUT OF HERE!

The NYC Public Library Reading Room is undeniably stunning—an architectural masterpiece that inspires awe and admiration. However, navigating it as a visitor can be a frustrating experience due to the unhelpful or disorganized staff. Want to study? You’ll need to show a laptop or a book to gain entry, but that isn’t always clear. Prefer a tour instead? Good luck figuring out the process. The tour times are supposedly listed on a board—“at the front,” you’re told, though where that is remains a mystery. After some searching, you’ll eventually find a board and a staff member who casually mentions you need a sticker to join. But where to get the sticker? Back “at the front,” of course, where a random person finally hands one over. Once you have it, you’ll be directed to “wait by the arch.” N

Please add signage on how to handle chairs in the library. Many people lack basic consideration and push chairs across the floor, creating unbearably loud noise, instead of gently lifting them. It is a wonderful library, but it is nearly impossible to study quietly when chairs are scraping every few seconds.
