The Sunset Restaurant

I brought an East Coast client here for dinner because there’s truly nothing like a December California sunset — and The Sunset Restaurant delivered perfectly. The dining room glows at golden hour, with huge open windows that bring the ocean right into your table. It’s such a classic Malibu experience — warm, relaxed, and never overcrowded. Parking was surprisingly easy too, which is rare for a beachfront spot. Our server was fantastic: friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The food was excellent, beautifully presented, and timed perfectly so we could enjoy the sunset without feeling rushed. If you’re looking for a true “Malibu evening” — great food, ocean views, and that effortless coastal vibe — this is the place. Always a solid choice for locals and visitors alike.

I went there for Valentine's Day and it was the perfect date! We were seated upstairs and watched as the sun set over the ocean with the windows wide open. It was absolutely beautiful! Food was delicious as well! I ordered the octopus to start and it was so tender and melted in my mouth. The risotto was also amazing and had great flavors. Had an amazing date night! Views were in unbeatable and food was really good too!

We visited The Sunset Restaurant yesterday, and the location alone makes it worth a stop. The restaurant sits right next to the beach with an incredible ocean and sunset view — truly a memorable atmosphere. The food was average — not great, but not bad either. Flavors could be more expressive, though portions were decent. Service was fine and timely. Overall, this is a wonderful place to enjoy the sunset and ocean scenery. Come for the atmosphere; the food is secondary.

We had an amazing, memorable meal at The Sunset Restaurant. Things I'll always remember: the hospitality of management, the carrot cake dessert, the fish sandwich, and the incredible views and vibe. I'm hesitant to write this review because I don't want to let the secret out! This is a hidden LA gem.

Love their French fries and clams! The view is amazing, the only thing I don’t like this place is the restroom is like a public restroom on the beach compared to the entire restaurant atmosphere and price.
