While in town, we came across this fine establishment. They have been a staple in Chicago since the 1940s. I would rate this a 3 1/2 stars based on the fact of the process catfish, no AC, while a few people behind the counter, only 2 people where going out to tables & taking orders. The fries were homemade and very delicious along with the beef burgers. Next time, we’ll definitely have to try a turkey burger. The food was fairly priced for the most part, save your money if you don’t like processed fish. Gave me a College crowd vibe, hope to visit soon TOP-Notch again, & very soon.
I tried the beef burger patty melt with fries and it really hit the spot. The grilled rye was buttery and crisp and wrapped around that melty cheese and beef patty just right. The onions were sweet and the whole thing was comforting in a classic way. The fries on the side were golden and paired well with the sandwich. It felt like a timeless diner meal done exactly right and I’ll be back for that again.
I have never had a bad meal here! I haven't been here in a few years but had the occasion to be in the area and had lunch here. I had the chili which was delicious and really but the spot. I also had a patty melt which was so tasty and cooked perfectly and they have good fries. Our waitress was delightful and the price was reasonable. It looks like an old fashion diner and feels very homey. Parking can be tough sometimes but it's worth it. Give it a try if you are in the area.
Me and my family came here for lunch yesterday. I got the patty melt and it was very good, the french fries are also superb. The milkshakes are good aswell. Overall this is one of the best places to eat in the south side and I reccemend it to any locals or tourists.
Wow have times changed. After about a 10 year break I returned here craving the burger that I once classified as one of the best. Something happened over the years, the burger seems cheapened and resembled a frozen disc that looks like those Great Value burgers one would get from Wal-Mart. Very disappointed, there’s nothing Top Notch about this place.
