Troy Public Library

I have been totally impressed with the warm, friendly, and very professional genealogical research assistance I have received from the Troy Public Library. Loreen is an amazing research librarian that genuinely cares about the quality of her work. She delivered exceptional service by helping me to find my family in old West Troy and Cohoes. Access to materials here is fantastic and the staff is wonderful. That said, Troy Public Library is NOT a quiet place. The childrens' events are great, but wow how loud. And the parents are even louder! In a LIBRARY. Finally, this IS clearly not a well-designed building, at Least for a library. All sound from the lobby is amplified through the building. I can hear every overly liud conversation very clearly while I try to read quietly. In a LIBRARY.

The library is a great place for me to visit, because they have an accessibility ramp for wheelchairs and walkers along the side of the building. This leads to a convenient back door. Their staff has always been courteous assisting me with the doors when they see me. I've been going here for many years. The main reason I go here is to use their computers and printers. The library's information pamphlets are also helpful, which give insights about various things outside the library. Also, my library card has given me access to eBooks and audiobooks on the Libby app, which has been a huge bonus.

Beautiful, historic building with helpful staff and innovative and fun free events!

I don’t know who is writing poor reviews for this library but they are insane and unkind. This library is one of the gems of Troy. It is architecturally gorgeous, the children’s section is amazing, every other section is excellent, the staff is so friendly, the events are above expectation, and it is centrally located. Whoever the librarian that wears suits in the children’s section should be promoted by the way— he goes out of his way to make suggestions to kids and makes an effort to engage with people which is very, very nice. Libraries used to be full of staff that cared about your experience AND were knowledgeable about the books around but oh how the times have changed for sure! You will not find staff members like this at other libraries in the Capital Region. Make sure you visit t
