Like stepping into a Vietnamese grandmother’s living room, together the warm hospitality and snug interior make the home-style cooking taste even homier. The menu is near encyclopedic — with a section exclusive to Hue culinary specialties. Rice plates, seafood stir-frys, porridges, crepe/pancakes, dry noodle bowls and noodle soups galore. #117 Canh Chua Tom (Vietnamese Sweet Sour Shrimp Soup) with egg noodle add-on was all that it says — plump and savory shrimp boiled in rejuvenating tamarind broth with tomatoes, eggplant and okra. #54 Bun Heo Xao Sa gets the basic elements of grilled lemongrass pork right, but the iceberg lettuce and bland tomato toppings fall short of the refreshing crunch one would want. #1 Bun Bo Hue, a signature noodle soup comes in well-spiced and lemongrass-frag
Yummm. Not the best Vietnamese food I’ve ever had, but very solid. Got the Bun Bo Hue, Bi Cuon, and my friend had the mini shrimp crepe. Bi Cuon was spot on! The sauce for it too as superb. Bun Bo Hue Soup had a ton of flavor too. Thanks for a great meal!
It was my first experience here yesterday after seeing some mean reviews about them. The place was boutique but was so welcoming and spotless inside. I felt at home as I sat down at the table. It would not be fair to say all of their dishes were great as I only got to try 2 yesterday, the bun bo hue and banh khoai. They were both great. They were like home meals by moms. Not big on the look but comforting and yummy. I would definitely come back with friends and family to show them what it is like dining in a restaurant in Vietnam at this restaurant.
In an area with many Vietnamese restaurants, this is definitely a hole in the wall where you can enjoy homemade Vietnamese cuisine. We tried several dishes including their Bun Bo Hue and they were all decent. Anything better you would need to go to San Jose.
A nice place to have Vietnamese food! Small family run restaurant that makes you feel you are in a mini Vietnam when visiting this place to eat. Definitely try their Bun Bo Hue and the Banh Uot #13. The Vietnamese iced coffee here is legit and tasted great. The coffee was in a cup and you can smell the nice aroma from it. Overall, service, food, and cleanliness is good. Highly recommend!
