Velvet Taco

I was already a fan of Velvet Taco after visiting their downtown Chicago, Austin, and Dallas locations, so I had to check out the Naperville spot. The menu really stands out with its bold fusion flavors that you would not find at a traditional Mexican place, like chicken tikka, cauliflower, and tofu tacos, and they actually work really well. Everything tasted great, with the chicken tikka being my favorite of the three we tried. The tortillas felt a bit larger than what I usually expect for tacos, but overall the experience was still very enjoyable thanks to the unique flavors. The staff was polite and welcoming, and they were happy to serve us even though we arrived close to kitchen closing time around 9:25 pm. I would definitely recommend Velvet Taco to anyone who has not tried it yet.

Velvet Taco was a win. The birria tacos were the star of the show and my husband declared them his favorite thing he has ordered there. Bold statement but honestly accurate. They were rich, juicy, and absolutely worth the hype. We also tried the steak tacos and the chicken tikka taco and both were really good. The cauliflower taco deserves a special shoutout because it had no business being that good and yet here we are still thinking about it. For sides we ordered the queso and the elote. Both were delicious but the elote was the clear favorite. If we could have bathed in it we probably would have. The vibe is fun and lively and the music is definitely loud so come ready to eat great tacos and yell your compliments across the table. We will be back.

Had dinner with our family of 4 tonight. We ordered the Kids Tenders, Kids Chicken and Steak Tacos. I ordered the Spicy Thai Shrimp Taco and the Chicken Tikka Taco, both were tasty, but spicy, so I'll try to balance it better next time! My husband ordered the Fish N Chips and Steak Chimichurri tacos and both were great. The tots and fried egg were pretty loaded with sauce and gooey from the egg, so be prepared to use a fork. We'll be back to try other tacos, there are many interesting flavor profiles to choose from.

The food was not great. The steak tacos were tough. The chicken tacos were gross. The chicken bowl was soggy. The red velvet cake was dry. The inside looked ok. Nothing to speak about. The service was fine. The price was too high for what you get. Do I don’t think we will be back.

Tried this place for the first time and really enjoyed the atmosphere—cozy, inviting, and definitely giving off those influencer vibes. The service was friendly and fairly quick, which is always a plus. As for the tacos, they were solid. The flavors were there, though I’ve had better elsewhere. The pricing wasn’t bad—maybe a bit on the higher side—but still understandable for the experience. Overall, I’d come back. It’s not my favorite taco spot, but it’s a pretty decent option all around.
