Grand Central Station has so much to look at. From the history to the ceilings, to the food options and stores. They have something for everyone. I didn’t realize the Vanderbilt connection until this trip that they helped build the facility thanks to a family friend who is an architect. It’s now connected to the One Summit Vanderbilt building next door. The building itself in the inner aspects is set up like Roman Bath Houses. When you go down to the lower level, you find the dining concourse. This is a wonderful hodge podge of different cuisine. There’s tacos, there’s baked goods at Magnolia Bakery. There’s ice cream from Van Leehauwen. There’s the stuff you can’t easily find elsewhere though. That’s how I found Veselka. Established in the 1950s, they serve Ukrainian food. I was impressed
I stopped by Veselka at Grand Central and tried the cheese omelette and their sandwich. It was hearty, flavorful, and cooked just right, with a great balance of gooey melted cheese. The omelette came with a toast—which was an excellent side. The bread was warm and perfectly toasted. Service was quick and friendly, which was perfect for the busy terminal setting. The atmosphere was lively, but still comfortable enough to enjoy the meal. A great spot for a quick and satisfying breakfast in the heart of Manhattan. Must try their omelettes! One of the best I’ve had in the city.
The food here is every bit as delicious as it is at the Veselka on 9th St. I had four sauerkraut and mushroom pierogi, with a side of beet/horseradish salad—Dee-lish! My daughter enjoyed the borscht. I appreciate being able to have some of my favorite cuisine in midtown. Grand Central can be a trick place to find an available table, but we were lucky and comfortable. I love the bustle and energy, there.
Wonderfully extensive menu. So enjoyed the stuffed cabbage and potato pancakes. Took home some meat borscht and baklava for later. Tastes homemade. The beet/horseradish slaw is in a league all its own. Wow!
Picked up some food to eat on the train ride after a long day of sightseeing in the city. Food was excellent including braised beef short rib pierigies fried with onions and arugala/goat cheese pierogies. Not very large but great tasting.
