Walmart Deli

I stopped by the Walmart deli in Ormond Beach but left without buying anything due to a food safety concern. The employee behind the counter said, “I’ll be right with you,” then immediately put on gloves without washing his hands. When I politely asked if he was going to wash his hands first, he told me he had just washed them in the bathroom. As someone certified in food safety and responsible for training others, I know that best practices require washing hands again when returning to a food prep area. Bathrooms are full of potential contaminants, and who knows what was touched on the way back? Rather than simply washing his hands, the employee chose to debate it.
