Wells Beach

Wells Beach is always exactly what I'm looking for: the sound & smells of the ocean, relaxation, great food & drink, friendly people & their dogs. We come back uear after year & it never disappoints.

One of the best places to chase a retreating low tide for a few hours, fly a kite, or find no Beach at the stairway stormwall access at high tide whatsoever. Plus the jetty! The ever-present beauty is as persistent as the breeze. Friendly, accessible, and if you don't come at the very height of the tourist season there are places to park, ample blanket space, and cold water at your feet. (The water is cold even in July.) The rock jetty (protecting the beach/estuary) at the north end is a fun flat walk challenge -- a calm place to be while otherwise surrounded by the forceful waves.

I’ve been visiting the beach with my family my entire life so I’m probably a bit biased. There are free 2 hour parking spots if you can get one in time but you may have to drive in circles for bit until you get lucky and spot someone leaving. The beach offers unique rocky tidal pools which are great for finding crustaceans and little sea creatures.

Parking is hard to find as there are shops and restaurants that use the same parking lot. But it is worth it to try and wait for a spot as the parking is free. The beach is beautiful! Lots of area to walk around, sunbathe, and swim.

There are benches you can just sit and watch the water. It's so tranquil.
