It's all relative. The sand is a a lot rougher than I would like although they do rake it. The playground is super small but nice enough. The bathrooms are clean. There's a shower to rinse off. Plenty of parking. Not very busy, at least not in August and Sept when i stayed nearby. Someone says it costs $42 to park there but I did not see an attendant booth or gate. I think I would spend the $70 and go to the nicer beaches in Westport. On the other side is Cummings Beach and that's going to be quite a bit more busy and does have an attendant Booth so maybe that's what they the reviewer was referring to. The sand is relatively a lot nicer but it looks like it will get a lot busier.
Googled this beach to come out for the day. Paid $42 per car and thought it would be something good. However, upon arrival the beach is small, closed off with a jetty, that extends. In addition, the sand is mixed with gravel and small sand front. Within 15 minutes of setting up, the beach was shut down by staff for a thunderstorm warning. 1 hour later, we were still waiting as these lifeguards were on their phones. 30 mins for every bout of thundrr which we did not hear. We could not be on the sand nor in the water. What a waste of money. Beach is Def not worth the price, more like $20 per car at most. Definitely a rip off and you can find a different beach. ENDED UP LEAVING BECAUSE THEY NEVER REOPENED THE BEACH. Meanwhile the sky was clear.
I really like the beach. Laid back and clean, but non residents pay $80 for parking for the day. There are food options. Ice cream truck came by. Water is calm but does recede a bit. The one perk is that you can visit 2 addt'l nearby beaches on the same day for the one pkg fee but whose going beach hopping after getting settled. Had I known trust I would've went elsewhere. My friend and I split the cost and made the best of it.
I visited this small clam beach on a Friday summer afternoon not knowing the entrance fee for vehicles were 42$. Unfortunately it there was a thunderstorm warning which didn’t even allow us to get in. While I understand that weather is unpredictable, there was no clear warning before entry that the beach might close due to a thunderstorm. Not long after paying the full price, the beach was shut down for safety reasons, and visitors were asked to get o it of the water and the sand.
I love West Beach. I gave it four stars because the bathrooms aren't open yet and I couldn't find a trash bin. But the beach itself was beautiful. I've been lucky enough that it hasn't been really crowded anytime I've gone. The tide was out but the water was crystal clear.
