West Salem Branch of the Salem Public Library

We moved to Salem last year and all my experiences with the West Salem library have been good ones. You can order and check out books online, or the old fashioned way with a live person to help you check out or find a book. Libraries everywhere are struggling to be welcoming to everyone, including homeless people who use the library for restroom access and comfort during bad weather. Hoping our little local library will be able to add more hours and staff- it's a local treasure.

The West Salem Library is a wonderful library with a tiny collection. It does boast 8 computers for public use, a selection of popular books and periodicals as well as a separate children’s area. The staff of the library is warm and greeting. They are incredibly knowledgeable and take the time to get to know patrons personally. This helps with recommendations and makes for a better experience. Unfortunately there is also a growing population of individuals who may be categorized as “homeless” who have begun to take over the free seating. This gives the library a stench and makes it a rather loud place to be. Unfortunately the librarians can do nothing about this and there are times when their presence is lessened which returns the library to its normal quiet/welcoming environment. I routin

There was 3 people waiting to use the restroom at the west Salem library and a employee was asked about if a patron can use the other one so the employee went out and kn on the door for the restroom and told there was a line and the guy came out with a dog a homeless guy with the dog through his attitude out on me about the restroom so I put in a complaint This is why I don't go to the library mush anymore because of the homeless think they have the right to give people a attitude about things I can see why library is doing budget cuts and I can see why no one wants the homeless around because they show up at the library and have a attitude towards people
