Xiao Bao Biscuit

Our favorite lunch place. Emory provided great service for us --- but we always get great service here. My wife had the oko (which is nearly transformative) and I had the pad kra pow. This second dish is spicy and has a gradually building heat. It is amazingly tasty...but don't get it if you don't like spicy/hot. We love these dishes.

Been excited to try this place for some time now and so happy we did. The menu is small and it showed the GF options which were helpful since my hubby has Celiac. It was also specific on the bottom that they don’t modify dishes which I can appreciate. We sat outdoor although they had a nice and spacious indoor seating and bar seats. Our server wasn’t the most personable and friendly, but she gave us a breakdown of their dishes. I asked her for a coke with my food and never got it so I didn’t even mention it because we didn’t see her after our entrees dropped. Now to the food! Pork+kimchi dumplings 4/5 - dumplings and texture were great, the sauce was good but TOO much ginger and that’s all you could really taste with a touch of soy. Xiao Bao Biscuit is a refreshing change of pace in Charleston. The shrimp fried rice with ginger scallion butter is incredibly flavorful, and the pork skewers are a must-order. The dipping sauce for the skewers has just the right amount of spice and heat. It is much more affordable than most of the other expensive spots downtown, which is a huge plus. The setup is great because they have plenty of room for large groups to share plates family-style, but the bar and smaller tables also make it perfect for personal seating. It’s easily one of the most unique and reliable meals in town.

Love this old gas station serving up food that is an explosion to the taste buds. Went here for a date night after my husband kept saying how great it was, and Xiao Bao didn’t not disappoint. Went shared the Okonomiyaki/cabbage pancakes, dumplings, and I believe a season chicken dish that they had. Fully satisfied with a delicious meal… WITHOUT breaking the bank for a date night. Highly recommend. ** also they have their own small lot( about four spots) for parking. Very helpful for downtown.

Tonight is my last night in Charleston, and I had dinner at @xiaobaobiscuit! It is in an old gas station and has a pretty cool feel. Drink: Sichuan Sting Sichuan peppercorn infused gin, lemon ginger beer, orange bitters. App: Bao Chinatown bbq, Marvin's mustard, and salt pickles. Entree: Stirfry Pad Kra Thai beef and basil stir fry with chili garlic and local veg - comes with fried sunny up egg. I also got rice with it. This place is followed on Insta by quite a few chefs and others. It was also recommended to me by someone I work with. I am so glad I decided to go! The whole meal was an experience.
