Chianti

Authentic Italian and the cook is from Sicily who came over to NY before coming down to us in Richmond. I was killing time with my dogs getting groomed in the center at DogKrazy and well...my wife works in the wine biz so w a name like Chianti I had to check things out. I was set on pizza--I mean come on, Sicily and New York?!! But when a saw the Veal Parmigiana as a lunch special, I shifted gears. The service here is top-notch--very kind and genuine people. OMG--the focaccia bread that came out 1st was decadent...topped w butter and Italian live spices melting together...hot out of the oven...just on the dense side of a fluffy experience that made me really aporeciate this bread--good chew and a flavor bomb in every bite. When I arrived over 20 minutes after ordering, my pizza was not ready. When the counter lady asked, the chef said yea it's here and pulls out an all cheese pizza that looks completely cooked. He then takes it to the back where I now assume he added the veg to half and then put back in the oven after asking if i wanted them cooked. I asked if I should come back later since they didn't seem to have the order correct. At this time I am irritated because there was a 3% debit credit charge that the lady that took my order didn't advise me of or I would have brought cash and now I've paid $19.26 already and I am worried about the value of the product I'll be getting. Chianti gives the vibes of nice family owned Italian joint. We ordered their speciality veggie pizza, garlic bread,gnocci and pasta. Portion size is decent so order accordingly. Also had their long island iced tea and it was pretty good. Staff is friendly and offers suggestions on request. Overall nice time and glad to find one more Italian restaurant in the area.

Great first visit - you know you’re in a good spot when you walk in and the place is packed and all the staff are scurrying around taking care of guests. Food did NOT disappoint, and the service was very friendly. Definitely a great “local” spot.
