This is no longer the Bo Fung I loved! When it was on Gravois, the ingredients were crunchy, fresh, crisp. . . . .what I just ate was horrible. They merged with another Chinese place on Grand, and I gave it a try. The General Tso chicken was tasteless, old, and chewy. It tasted like frozen food that you'd buy at the store, but worse. I took 2 pieces, and did not finish it. The rice was not the same. The only edible part of the meal was the egg roll.
First off, Bo Fung is no more. They have moved and “merged” with Grand Wok and this is most definitely not the Bo Fung I grew up going to and loving on Gravois. My experience was absolutely terrible. The fried rice was yellow. My St. Paul sandwich was half burnt/chewy. The General Tso chicken was absolutely flavorless and tasted like chicken nugget meat. 0% love put into the food, 0% flavor. I can’t even begin to explain how disappointed I was. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere, this is NOT Bo Fung !!
I really wanted to like this place. It's hard to find good Canton-style sweet & sour, so we tried it. The clerk was nice, the place seemed ok, but the food was bland or worse - hopefully it was just a bad day, but I don’t think so. We spent a hundred dollars on various dishes, and the only one that was good was the crab Rangoon, which for all I know came from a bag. The entrées were tasteless. The *worst* was the wonton soup - thin noodles, twisted, not folded - see photo. The filling was *crunchy*, like undercooked rice, and not particularly tasty. For the record, I ate every bite of the wonton soup the next day for my lunch, because it was all I brought, so it wasn't inedible, but regretfully, I can't recommend it.
My go-to carry-out Chinese joint. Pork lo mein, potstickers, and crab Rangoon are all solid. Plus, you get a free order of crab Rangoon once you spend $20. Just FYI because for years we were getting a double order and not realizing it... Staff is friendly. The venue is a bit dingy, but that may be partly due to the lighting. I have never seen anyone eating in, but I am usually only in there to pick up after 8ish. Parking can be a challenge due to them being right on Gravois.
Quick, cheap, great for take out or dine in. St. Paul with pork is one of the best in town and shrimp fried rice and Szechwan chicken are always great.
