St Louis County Health Department

I came here for an STD test in August 2024. The healthcare provider, Valerie K Higginbotham, WHNP-BC, who conducted the testing and treatment was extremely unprofessional and rude. When I mentioned relevant medical history that had been provided to me by other healthcare professionals, including my PCP, instead of working with me to understand that history, she appeared defensive and made a comment along the lines of, “I am the one providing the medical treatment, not them.” She also repeatedly criticized me about the STD I had contracted, without any understanding of how it may have occurred. Information on the website is terribly out of date. Trying to get answers and Information is a painful process. If all Missouri health departments run this way, it explains why so many preventable diseases are reported in such high numbers in Missouri.

Hey I know this is crazy but true the health department was just here for bed bugs 🐜 and was shut down in hazelwood and there still here after reopening we are getting bit up bad in our sleep. Not okay the health department needs to come back!! In room 311!! They need to be shut down. Now it shouldn’t be a problem when we ask our money ask but it’s gonna be an issue. I received care at the health dept today and I couldn’t have been more thankful. Everyone was really nice and easy going. I felt so well cared for which is always a relief. (We’ve all had horrible experiences I’m sure that stand out, but today stood out in the best of ways) The phlebotomist was so good I would have trusted her to draw my blood blind folded lol The nurses were great too. And I can’t speak highly enough about the NP that saw me. She went above and beyond taking care of me and I’m truly so grateful. She was so easy to talk to and be honest with and I never once felt like she looked down on me. I appreciated all her knowledge and advice and wish I could have her as my PCP! All in all I was really impressed and so grateful for the amazing care I received.
