Really enjoyed the experience all around. Food was perfect and filling. Love the atmosphere and character of the place. Courteous wait staff. Good prices. We will be back when we are in Asheville.

Salt-of -the-Earth, locally owned, down-home breakfast & lunch diner. If you’re looking for uptown & trendy, look elsewhere. There are plenty of folks waiting for that table. If you like true Southern grub, this place might be for you. I generally recommend this restaurant for breakfast, which is served until 11 am, but I had lunch today, only because it was too late for the excellent breakfast menu. I was a little stumped as to what to order, as I don’t eat burgers, which occupy most of the lunch menu. I settled on the chicken cheese steak with a side of fried okra. I always appreciate a restaurant offering fried okra, so I was very pleased that they were willing to swap out the fries for my side of choice. The hoagie bun was a bit chewy, but otherwise the sandwich was flavorful and fill

The hungry bear cafe cured my terminal lung cancer. The sheer quality of the food is tear-jerking. I came in as a hungry bear and left a fat, tarp, full bear. I had been smoking for 43 years before contracting lung cancer. I went to hungry bear cafe a week ago exactly and shortly after was cured. I don’t know what witchcraft you and the bears have going on in there but it cured my cancer. I had 2 months tops and am now set to live a long life. I love you, hungry bear. Stay hungry folks.

Server was attentive and very friendly. Food came out quickly despite being on the busy side and the food was awesome. Didnt spend very much at all either. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for some good homestyle cooking.

You wait on the porch, when they have room they call you in for newbies like myself. The food is awesome and a great value. Seats maybe 40 but worth the wait
